The Dutch webshop Bol.com is following the footsteps of Amazon with the introduction of the delivery subscription Select. For € 14.99 a year all shipping costs are covered. Up to now, you paid 1,99 euro for delivery of orders under 20 euros. With Select, these small orders are delivered free of charge. Evening, Sunday and same day delivery are also included in the service. This lowers the barriers for online shopping even further.
Bol.com has launched the new service with 300,000 products, which have been labeled ‘Select’ on the website. The group hopes to expand this number to about one million in the coming years. According to experts, it is likely that other major webshops like Coolblue and Wehkamp will follow suit.
Select is similar to Amazon’s Prime service. The worldwide market leader in online shopping offers a delivery subscription for $ 100 a year. In addition to free delivery, a music service and a movie streaming service are also included in this subscrition. In the United States alone, about 15 million people have a Prime membership. Market figures show that Prime members spend almost 5 times as much at Amazon. A profitable proposition, don’t you agree?
